Helmi Vent - Prize for LIA

In July 2013, Helmi VENT was awarded the “Ars docendi State Prize for Excellence in Teaching at Austria's Public Universities”, in the category “Innovative Teaching Concepts”. The prize was presented to her by Federal Minister of Science and Research Karlheinz Töchterle at the Aula der Wissenschaften in Vienna. The nomination of Helmi Vent had been submitted by the Austrian Students’ Union of the Mozarteum University Salzburg and made reference to the concept of the experimental and artistic performance workshop LIA - Lab Inter Arts.

Category “Innovative Teaching Concepts”: Prof. Helmi Vent

“The teaching concept of Lab Inter Arts (LIA), developed by Helmi Vent, offers students of all disciplines at the Mozarteum University Salzburg and the University of Salzburg a platform for aesthetic crossover projects. These are projects that incorporate the specific interests of the students and that not only enable the participants to experience and investigate the interplay of the arts in the context of an already hybrid culture both performatively and through discussion, but also place a focus on different cultures across the globe. The high significance of the ultimately physical experience has, to a great extent, the result that these exploratory, research and arts based projects overcome academic, artistic and geographic boundaries. LIA avoids the risk of transitoriness inherent in knowledge acquired through performative modes and discussed in accompanying seminars by means of the copious production of audiovisual documents, the dissemination of which impressively ensures the sustainable impact of the individual projects. With this approach, LIA provides an excellent example of horizon-expanding teaching that accords students scope for their experiences and interpretations in a contemporary form.”
